Here they went and postponed The Road's opening last year to this year expressly for this season's Oscars and it didn't get nominated for anything! Maybe they should have just released it last year as originally planned.

Agree with you Fiona. There has been a lot of speculation about VM getting nominated - shame it all came to nothing.

I just think it's ridiculous that there were 10 films nominated for best picture. Seriously? 10? Talk about not making a commitment. I guess this year it's really not that much of an honor just to be nominated.

Indeed. I suspect one reason Viggo'll never get nominated is that he's said a few times in public that he doesn't care about awards. So he's not willing to do the lobbying behind the scenes necessary to get on the pre-nomination shortlist. (At least 200 movies a year get released in the theaters in the US each year, never mind international markets. Do you think the academy members watch every one? Let's not be silly!)

I can't find the link to the artilce, but over on Viggo Works, in an foreign article Viggo actually said that they had abandoned distribution of The Road to the North American market. $#!+heads! :wall:

FIrst Good and now The Road! I am SO glad I went to Chicago last year to see Good when I got the chance!!!

So who won at the Oscars anyway? I didn't watch .

Uuuuhhhh, I don't think they've aired yet, have they? I know the Golden Globes, and I'm pretty sure the SAG awards, have gone, but I don't think the Oscars have happened yet.

Nope the Oscars haven't happened yet... 7 March 2010 I think is the date.

I'm happy that Bigelow got best picture for The Hurt Locker. Haven't seen it yet, but it's on my list of movies to see. I'm also glad that Avatar didn't get more than 3 out of 9 nominations, and those in the technical categories.

The irony - Sandra Bullock being awarded a Razzie (sp?) and an Oscar with in days of each other!
